Poorest President

Some people are amazing. People like Uruguay Jose Mujica who donate 90% of their salary to charity make my day. I love to hear about all the kind things people are doing these days because not a lot of people have a heart. he was absolutely correct when he said, "Poor people are those who only work to try to keep an expensive salary and always want more." I don't think anyone else has the heart to donate almost all of the money they make to someone who needs it more than they do. I bet that his money is going to an amazing cause and will definitely help someone in need.

Cold Water Challenge

I bet you have seen on Facebook or Instagram a lot of people doing the cold water challenge. This was created to raise money for charity. If you choose to jump in freezing cold water, you only have to pay a small amount of money, but if you don't jump in the cold water, you have to pay about a hundred dollars to charity. The other day I was challenged by Melissa. So far, I don't know where I'm going to do it. My neighbor was also challenged, so we are going to do it together, but her pool isn't open yet. I think that the cold water challenge was a good idea to start, and I'm glad that people are actually participating. This idea spread quickly, and a lot of people have been challenged more then once.

Kid Nation 3

In this video I have first seen examples of socialization because Greg needs to learn how to behave with the little kids. Mallory's parents do not approve of cursing, and that is something that Greg has been doing. He needs to know that the council was strongly thinking about giving the gold star to him, so he can't just throw it all away. Also, the council has decided on a curfew for the kids; some children don't agree, but they need to learn to participate in  a group life.

The second thing I have seen in this video is self-concept because some people have good images of themselves based on what they have accomplished. The council has an easy time trusting Michael because of the image he has made of himself. Also, Greg thinks he has made a good image on the council members until the morning where he woke everyone up by rolling on the little kids. Greg was cursing and acting like a complete idiot. Because of the image he has made on himself, the council will have a hard time trusting him as the person to give the gold star to.

The last thing I have seen in this video is de-socialization and re-socialization because during the last showdown, a lot of the districts were reassigned to a new job. The red district, the old merchants, have to be the laborers. Before they were even merchants, they were upper class, and it will be hard to move down to the lowest class. But for the green district, for example, they get to move up to the cooks. All of the districts have to change their way of life in a small way, but they have to learn to change their ways and sometimes give something up.

Kid Nation

In this episode, culture is being shown because some people believe that they should kill the chickens and use them as meat, and then they will have protein in their bodies. On the other hand, some people think that killing the chickens is cruel. These people are not born knowing what they believe. This event is causing conflict between the people who want to kill the chickens and those who don't, but they have to think about the other kids sometimes.

Also, I have seen examples of formal sanctions because the council gives rewards to the people they think deserve it. One example of a reward they give is the gold star, but you have to make sure you are working hard for the reward. The council is thinking about giving the gold star to Michael because he gave a speech to encourage the rest of the town during the first episode, and he also thought of the idea to pour hot water over the frozen faucet. They also are thinking about giving the star to Greg because he has been such a big help and people look up to him since he's the oldest and he helped cooking the chickens.

The last thing I have seen in Kid Nation are examples of norms because even though each district has their own job to do, it is normal to help other people when they need it. The yellow district are the cooks, but the green district usually helps the yellow team because they are much younger. We are all responsible for each of our own responsibilities although it is usual and polite for people to help out. Also, Greg helped out with killing the chicken because he knew the proper way to do it, but it was probably the cook's job. It is normal to help people when the are in need.

Saturday

Saturday was my friend, Allison's, birthday party. When I got there, we played in the road with chalk. When cars drove by people looked at us funny, but we didn't care. We soon got bored, so we went on a walk to her neighbors house and jumped on their trampoline. We ate pizza, and then we went outside to play basketball. One time, the basketball rolled in a big ditch with at least a foot of mud. We took turns putting on boots and splashing around in the mud; some of us got stuck a couple times. The best part was when we went to see Divergent. I have already seen it, but it was fun to go with a bunch of friends. The movie was awesome! When we came home, we went in her basement and played ping pong for a while. The cake was awesome. We watched the movie Frozen, and then went to bed. I had an awesome Saturday!

Kid Nation

In this video, perspective is being used because the town council has a different point of view than the rest of the group. They have to look for the person who will receive the gold star. Also, each one of the people on the council have a different background. For example, one is a boy scout, one is a pageant queen, one is a spelling bee champion, and the last one is all about being responsible. Because of this, they are all going to be watching carefully for the person who deserves the gold star, but they might be looking for different qualities.

Also, in this video I have seen examples of power. The town council has power over everyone, but they have to keep things organized and make sure people agree on their decisions. They are the ones who have to make sure everyone has enough food, water, supplies, and they are comfortable with the situation. Also, the kids who earn $1 will have power because they don't have to do any chores; they can just pitch in whenever they want.

The final thing I have seen in this video is an example of class conflict. Each district receives a different amount of money. the people who clean only have 10 cents, even if they do a lot of work. This system might create disagreements, but it helps children understand how the world really works. Most people don't like it when the leaders act like they are in a higher position than them, and it would be better if they acted like friends, even if the amount of money the make causes conflict. it is going to be hard for them to get used to the system because they have never experienced something like this before.

Dear Mrs.DeBolt.,

I love to play basketball, run cross country, and play softball. My favorite sport, however, is track. So far, the season has been going great and I am excited for the other seasons ahead of me! I have an awesome family. The craziest person in my family is my grandma. One time, she used my pogo stick and fell on the picnic table. She goes tubing with my grandpa, and she was the one who taught me how to water ski. She is still able to, today.

The coolest thing about me is water skiing. I think it is one of the most fun and exciting things you can do in your free time, but not everyone has the opportunity to do it, which is why I love it so much. I wish everyone was able to experience it! Just a couple summers ago is when I learned how,  and since then I have come a long way! This is the one thing I look forward to in the summer!

Technology has grown so much in a short period of time. In this class, I would like to learn more about the new technology and where the world is headed with new creations. It would also be fun to learn about some of the newest products that are still being worked on! I'm sure that whatever we do will be fun.

                                                                                                    Sincerely,
                                                                                                    Madelyn Welsh

Video Games

In my opinion, video games can make kids more violent, but that is not always the case. If kids play the game 24/7, then yes, they will be more violent. Video games should only be played in someone's spare time, which is what they were made for. Parents should not allow their kids to play a certain game all the time because they will eventually begin to choose to play the game rather than do what they are supposed to be doing, like homework. Most video games are unrealistic, so you don't have to worry much about a zombie apocalypse or your child wanting to run around with a gun and shoot people in allies.
